This course delivers advanced dairy management training for dairy herd managers. Whether you are already managing a dairy, or would like to in the future, the course will provide essential skills and knowledge to allow you to thrive within a modern dairy farming industry.
The course covers all critical areas of modern day dairy farming and will focus on providing management tools and knowledge which can be utilised on a day to day basis to achieve best practice, using a mixture of classroom based theory and on-farm practical demonstrations and exercises.

Course overview:
Each of the 6 modules provides focused and comprehensive best practice training within dairy farming with the aim of providing a complete dairy training programme:
Course starts:
Module 1: Cow Nutrition, Diet Formulation and Margin Generation
Module 2: Heifer Rearing and Transition Cow Management
Module 3: Financial Management and Dairy Farm Economics
Module 4: Fertility, Mastitis & Lameness
Module 5: Forage Management and Utilisation
Module 6: Business Development and Management
(Please note there will be no delivery in February 2025 and there may be some minor amendments to the course content ahead of the new academic year.)
The course will be assessed on a modular basis. This will be based upon short answer written assessments and calculations.
This is a non-accredited course delivered to a Level 4 standard.

If you’d like to be considered for the AllTech scholarship then please state this in the ‘optional message’ section of the form and provide a separate document of up to 500 words stating your reason for applying for the scholarship. Please submit these 500 words to supporte@nrtraining.co.uk as well as completing the enquiry/application form. Your application for the course and scholarship will then be considered.
The Alltech scholarship for 2024 applicants is now open and will close on the 10th September 2024.
The course is recognised by Dairy Pro for CPD allocation. If you attend and are a Dairy Pro Member you will be able to add your own attendance via the Dairy pro portal.

Meet the tutor
James Webster is a leading independent dairy consultant based in Cumbria having gained a BSc (Hons) in Rural Resource Management at the University of Reading.
Having worked in this role for 15 years, James has an excellent track record of delivering change on dairy farms. This ranges from technical herd management and nutrition through to business structure and driving financial improvements.
James designed the Advanced Dairy Management course with the sole purpose of upskilling current and future dairy managers. This is done by providing the most current guidance, knowledge and tools to push dairy businesses forward.
