Helen Sale

Helen is the founder and owner of Companion Gardener where she gardens alongside clients providing them with a social and educational experience on a regular basis.

Having had a very successful career in event management, flying all over the world  looking after corporate clients, Helen knew she wanted to keep her feet firmly on the ground when she and her husband relocated to Cumbria.

Helen trained at Newton Rigg College and gained her RHS and BTEC Horticulture qualifications whilst also participating in the WRAGS scheme (Work and Retrain As a Gardener Scheme) at Askham Hall. Helen has recently moved house with a very large garden and is enjoying putting her knowledge and experience to practice with rewilding and landscaping areas in her leisure.

People and plants inspire Helen:

“All the lecturer’s at Newton Rigg college have been a massive influence on me. Their passion for horticulture is infectious. My clients inspire me too, never afraid to try new things in their gardens and I get to see what inspires them. Horticulture is like a roundabout, always moving, passing on experience and gaining knowledge all the time. I love the fact that I learn something new every day, it brings me deep joy and contentment.”

Helen is a new addition to the teaching team at Lowther and is looking forward to passing on her passion in horticulture to all the new students.
