Warwick Muir

Horticulture Tutor

Warwick is the owner and founder of a successful West Cumbrian horticulture business, Allerdale Gardens, offering a range of horticulture services to commercial, domestic and private clients.

Following on from a successful career as a chef / chef lecturer for over 30 years, he made the decision to hang up his apron and leave the stress of a kitchen behind and pursue his second passion,  horticulture.

Warwick’s passion for horticulture was inspired by his family: his grandfather, mother and auntie were, and are, all keen gardeners. Prior to turning professional Warwick was a keen amateur gardener for many years. He has a particular love for kitchen gardening and was growing his own produce to use in his own kitchens and menus long before it was trendy for chefs to have their own kitchen gardens.

Warwick is devoted to sustainable gardening practices and volunteers as a Master Composter with Garden Organic to encourage others to compost and garden as sustainably as possible.

Warwick studied horticulture at Newton Rigg college and also with NR Training at Lowther Castle and Gardens as he had a desire to formalise his horticulture skills and experience.

Warwick is a new addition to the teaching team at Lowther after expressing an interest in teaching to pass his knowledge and experience of all things horticulture to further generations.
