This course is designed for chainsaw operators who intend to use the chainsaw for business, domestic or leisure activities. It is suitable for those seeking contractual work in professional forestry, amenity or arboricultural activities.
Course Content:
Maintenance of the chainsaw
Carry out operational chainsaw checks
Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice regarding chainsaw maintenance & cross-cutting
Cross-cut timber using a chainsaw
Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Candidates must be at least 16 years old in order to operate a chainsaw
Entry requirements:
The minimum age limit for Candidates taking Certificates of Competence is 16 years. There is no upper age limit. The training course has physical demands and requires the carrying and movement of equipment in woodland and forest environments.

9.00 am - 4.00 pm
PPE Requirements
Safety helmet en397 (within date- generally within 5yrs of manufacture or 3yrs from first use).
Ear protection en 352.
Mesh visor en1731 and/ or safety glasses en166.
All of these will be on a standard chainsaw helmet.
Chainsaw protection trousers (min class1 chain speed protection).
Chainsaw protection boots or wellies (min class 1 chain speed protection) including safety toe caps.
Gloves- preferably with chainsaw protection
Non snag clothing - high visibility
Personal first aid kit- comprising of at least a large wound dressing (generally 18x18cm).
A basic tool kit
Suitable jackets/waterproofs
